American University in Bosnia and Herzegovina once again organized the action of voluntary blood donation in coordination with the Cantonal office of the Red Cross and the Polyclinic for Transfusion of the University Clinical Center Tuzla. This is the second time that American University in Bosnia and Herzegovina has organized this kind of activity, with the intention of making it traditional, in that way contributing to increasing the quantity of supply of this precious liquid. The action was supported by a significant number of students, including professors originally from distinguished American universities, as well as by other employees of American University in Bosnia and Herzegovina who took today's action as a personal obligation to become blood donors, consciously and voluntarily without any kind of prejudice. The reason for this kind of understanding was the idea that donating blood means saving human lives. According to statistics, the situation regarding blood supplies in Tuzla Canton is alarming, with the current supplies being less than one percent.
With an aim to achieve a satisfactory blood supply, this percentage should be higher than two percent. Within this process, regular volunteers blood donors are of crucial importance.
Dr. Aida Abic expressed her gratitude on behalf of the Polyclinic for Transfusion of the University Clinical Center Tuzla for the action carried out successfully, while gratitude on behalf of the Cantonal Office of the Red Cross was expressed by Ms Amra Piric, volunteer coordinator for voluntary blood donation. As in the previous year, this occasion was used for making students more familiar with the importance of voluntary blood donation.
