In 2009 American University in Bosnia and Herzegovina (AUBiH) at the invitation of the 42nd President of the United States of America, William Jefferson Clinton, joined the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI). AUBiH feels privileged to be among selected group of leaders from around the world that are in New York this week again for the 2010 CGI annual meetings. The representatives of the AUBiH will use the week of CGI meetings in New York to present their ideas and projects that deal with post-conflict education and to connect with leaders from across the globe in order to learn about so many great project that CGI community is working on.
AUBiH continues to deliver good-quality, American-style education to the Balkans region. In 1989, Eastern Europe began the transition from communism to democracy. Each country in the region faced substantial economic, social and political challenges. From 1992 - 1995, Bosnia and Herzegovina was engulfed in a devastating war. Since 1995, Bosnia and Herzegovina has made great strides in creating a modern state based on the rule of law and respect for human rights.
The mission of the AUBiH is to equip as many future leaders of the region as possible with the best skills, education, and experience based on American model of education in cooperation with State University of New York (SUNY). Such new leaders will be able to get engaged in solving today's problems and contribute to the whole region's peace, stability and prosperity.
As AUBiH continues its growth, it is pleased to offer a select number of students the opportunity to participate in a study abroad experiencewww.aubih.edu/en/studyabroad. Rugged mountains, magnificent beaches, wild rivers, green hills - all can be found in this one country. Since the dawn of time, Bosnia's location in southeastern Europe has made it a crossroad of civilizations. Today, Bosnia and Herzegovina is the ideal location to explore the grandeur of the ancient and medieval worlds while studying 20(th) century conflicts in the heart of southeast Europe. Potential students have the opportunity to study for a semester, an academic year or in a specially designed 8-week summer program at the AUBiH. Participations in these programs will give students the rare opportunity to absorb Bosnia's culture, history and traditions in a safe environment. As a short-term resident scholars, students would gain insight and experience that is not available to tourists. A study abroad experience at AUBiH can be easily integrated into students' degree programs, while at the same time giving their resumes and transcripts a unique attribute that will help them to stand out. It would allow students to challenge themselves fully, academically and personally.
