Bruce Berton with students of AUBiH:"Young people are key to changes in Bosnia and Herzegovina"

Sarajevo, April 25th -Principal Deputy High Representative and Brcko District Supervisor, Bruce G. Berton, delivered a lecture at the American University in Bosnia and Herzegovina (AUBiH), where he met with students and discussed the history and role of the Office of the High Representative in BiH.

The lecture has garnered much attention from students of Law and International Relations and Diplomacy. Among the many topics discussed at the lecture, students gained valuable insights into the operating model of the OHR in BiH, its internal decision making process and plans for the future.

Principal Deputy High Representative Berton introduced the students to OHR's current activities and the means for ongoing functioning of the institution. Mister Berton later admitted he was pleasantly surprised with the turnout and was pleased to have met with students of AUBiH.

"I was quite impressed with the students' enthusiasm and openness for dialogue, as well as their grasp of the current affairs of both Bosnia and Herzegovina and the neighboring region. At the same time, throughout the lecture and the resulting discussions on OHR, I have had the chance to hear their opinions on all the current affairs of notable importance for BiH.", added Berton.

Among the topics were other current affairs of notable interest for the country, such as the worrying outflow of youth, the European Union's policy towards BiH as well as daily political matters.

"The discussion mostly focused on the current affairs in domestic politics, the existing political party system in the country, most notably the means of how to improve on it. It is exactly young people such as these students who will be key to this process, because they want to stay in BiH and take up active roles in these changes." added Berton.

Visiting lectures by Principal Deputy High Representative Bruce G. Berton are regularly held as part of AUBiH's initiative for networking of its students with successful officials, businessmen, entrepreneurs and other notable public figures.

Mister Bruce G. Berton has taken up the role of Principal Deputy High Representative in September of 2015. Prior to that, Mr. Berton served as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of the United States of America in Sofia, Bulgaria. He joined the Foreign Service in 1987 and has served in a variety of positions in a variety of places, including Caracas, Moscow, Bermuda, Hong Kong, Rome, Mexico City, Frankfurt and Warsaw in addition to five years at the State Department’s headquarters in Washington, DC.
