On December 19th 2013, Salem State University of Massachusetts signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the American University in BiH (AUBiH). Cooperation among the two institutions is being established in the field of scientific and educational cooperation, student and professor exchange, as well as team work on research projects. In addition, via its Summer Program AUBiH will be a host to study visits of its new partner university.
With signing the memorandum with Salem State University, AUBiH has broadened its network of partnerships with American universities – the network which includes well-prestige universities such as Northeastern, George Mason, and West Virginia. AUBiH is a single university on the territory of ex-Yugoslavia as well the second university in Southeast Europe which has American accreditation and EDU web domain – the domain that only American universities can use, namely www.aubih.edu.
Each year, AUBiH is a host to several universities from US which bring their students to BiH in order to familiarize themselves with the political and economical situation, have meetings with relevant international and domestic influencers on BiH’s political scene, get introduced to NGO sector, as well as meet and build friendship with their peers in BiH. These events lead toward rapprochement of students from the two countries, while simultaneously guest students develop a connection to BiH which will ultimately contribute to their professional careers.
Founded in 1854, Salem State is a state university of Massachusetts. The University’s students who get education at one of its five campuses come from twenty-nine federal states and sixty-six countries.
