JONATHAN MOORE – CHARGE D’AFFAIRS OF THE AMERICAN EMBASSY IN BIH, GAVE A SPEECH AT THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA, TUZLA CAMPUS.

The Vision of the U.S. for BiH

On March 24, 2010 Mr. Jonathan M. Moore, Chargé d’Affairs of the American Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, held a lecture at the American University in Bosnia and Herzegovina (AUBiH) entitled “The Vision of the U.S. for BiH”. Mr. Moore emphasized that the United States of America has a clear vision of the future of BiH. The United States sees BiH becoming integrated into the European Union and NATO. This is the best way to enable BiH to access investment funds, better conditions for economic growth and to ensure political stability.

AUBiH students from Colleges in Tuzla, Sarajevo and Banja Luka attended this lecture. Afterwards, Mr. Moore engaged in a dialogue with students through Q&A session. In that dialogue, Mr. Moore emphasized that the American Embassy supports the mission of AUBIH and believes that the education offered by AUBiH will give students outstanding opportunities for the future.

Expressing the American view of the situation in BiH, Mr. Moore said that he is conscious of the limitations of Dayton, but he still sees the BiH of the future as integrated into the European Union, taking the same path that other countries in the region are following. He admits that progression towards EU membership is possible, but the political leadership of BiH needs to work to improve reform efforts which, in any event, is no more than their duty to their constituents.

Mr. Moore also spoke about the necessity of cancelling the EU visa requirements for the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In addition, AUBIH students expressed interest in the USA's visa policy regarding BiH citizens. Mr. Moore emphasized that it is purely technical question based on percentage of travelers overstaying their visas and it has nothing to do with any political requirements.
