NATO’s head of communications services, Mr. Steven Mehringer gave students a lecture on how this organization communicates with the public on social media. Students got the chance to get the best insight on NATO’s online integrated communications strategies from the first hand.
Mr. Steven Mehringer is Head of Communications Services in the NATO Public Diplomacy Division. Communications Services manages NATO HQ's entire digital content and audio-visual production chain to include NATOChannel.tv, the NATO website, the NATO Radio & TV Studios and NATO's blossoming social media platform. Prior to joining NATO in August 2010, Steven served for 3.5 years in Iraq with the U.S. Department of State. As the Director of Broadcast Operations at the U.S. Embassy - Baghdad, he played a critical role in developing the embassy's broadcast outreach capabilities and helping the Embassy Public Affairs Section understand how to use communication technologies to maximize its message. His work in Iraq brought the rare recognition of twice being given the Department of State - Meritorious Honor Award for his service to the mission. Steven was also honored by General David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker for his work in helping rebuild the Iraqi Boy Scouts and Girl Guides program. Prior to his deployment to Iraq, Steven spent 15 years as a Journalist and Producer in television news, working across the United States for NBC, ABC and FOX News. His coverage of the U.S. Federal Government shutdown in 1995 won an Emmy Award for KTNV-TV in Las Vegas. He graduated with honors from East Carolina University in 1991, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication.
