Student illustrations: Climate Change

The International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) of the United Nations has clearly reported that Climate Change is real on planet earth and that it is due to a significant increase of anthropogenic (caused by humans) greenhouse gas emissions. Emissions of these greenhouse gases are due to burning of fossil fuels such as petrol, coal and gas, but also to deforestation. Consequences of global warming include melting of the ices on the poles, increase in ocean level and temperature, and increase in number and intensity of extreme weather events such as hurricanes, floods and droughts.

Human societies need to adapt to these existing changes and to prevent further damage (mitigate) with a reduction of emission of greenhouse gases and a reduction of deforestation, developping renewable energy forms and sustainable farming and construction practices.
