U.S. DEPUTY SECRETARY OF STATE JAMES STEINBERG ADDRESSED STUDENTS OF THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

BOSNIA AND HERZGOVINA IS LED TOWARDS EUROPEAN UNION BY ITS YOUTH

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Mr. James Steinberg, during his visit to Sarajevo and a regional conference ‘EU-Western Balkans’, reaffirmed once more the United States of America’s resolute support to Bosnia and Herzegovina on its road towards EU, stating that USA is our country’s true partner. This statement was made during Mr. Steinberg’s address to the students of the American university in Bosnia and Herzegovina from Sarajevo, Banja Luka and Tuzla, where he assured the students that the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina is in their hands. Mr. Steinberg emphasized that AUBIH students are a great potential of this country because they are the students of a multiethnic university that teaches the skills needed to help build a stronger country.

‘Your task is to help your country on its journey towards the better future and economic prosperity, and you are its hope. Your destiny is to be a part of European Union and NATO, to belong to a great community of the world, but that demands time, hard work and dedication on the part of all of you’,stated Steinberg to the students.

AUBIH students had a chance to ask Mr. Steinberg questions regarding our prospects for joining NATO, and also what decisions our politicians must make.

‘Doors to your admission to NATO are open, but we cannot make you go through. It is not only about joining NATO, it is also about building a more stable and a more secure state. In 20 years time I see Bosnia and Herzegovina as a member of EU and NATO’, said Mr. Steinberg. He specifically highlighted his familiarity with our country’s social scene, and confirmed his belief in our young people, saying that they must take action in order for their voice to be heard, but also to wisely use their right to vote on the coming elections.
